The name's Kent Tong, and I love long walks on the beach. Actually, I wouldn't know because I've never really had a long, meaningful walk on a beach. I'm from Destrehan, Louisiana, where I was born and raised. Destrehan is a fairly nice and quiet neighborhood. It's never too busy since the only major business in Destrehan are Winn Dixie, Smoothie King, Circle K, McDonald's, and Burger King. Though Destrehan is a small and quiet town, it's actually attracted some big-time movie companies. The pool scene from 'The Final Destination' was filmed literally down my street at a country club. And just last week, a film called 'The Paperboy' was being filmed next to Winn Dixie, starring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, and Matthew McConaughey.
My parents are both from Vietnam, and they moved to the United States after the Vietnam War, though not together. The two started dating years after migrating here, and they married in their early twenty's. My parents are the two most hard-working people I know, and everything they've done for me and my siblings I am thankful for. Sometimes I can't even imagine how my parents had felt when they were escaping Vietnam by boat, it must have been a very scary one. The courage they had to escape their Communist country to a place of freedom like America has allowed me to live a nice life, so I am forever thankful to my parents. They're always telling me how lucky my siblings and I are compared to their childhood, and they're right - I am truly lucky.
There's not much to describe about me, personally, besides the fact that I was in Talented Art from 2nd grade to the end of high school. I was in the Honors program for high school, but I wasn't one of the lucky, super-smart students. I was a procrastinator all through high school, which isn't a positive quality, but thankfully it didn't keep me from passing my classes. My hobbies, besides drawing, are watching movies and television shows. I used to watch a lot of TV, but nowadays I usually don't have time to watch certain shows every week, so I buy television series in bulk and watch them all at once. I buy dvds of such series as The Office, Community, 30 Rock, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I also have the first season of Glee on dvd. Yes, sadly I am a Glee fanatic (or Gleek). I don't know why, because it's a show full of cliches and storylines that repeat themselves, but I just like the show. I guess because it's fun, even if it is dumb.
I used to read a lot of manga and watch a lot of Anime, but for the past year or so I just haven't had the time to keep up with them. My favorite mangas to read were Naruto, Bleach, and Yotsuba&! And my favorite Anime shows would have to be Dragon Ball Z, Death Note, Bleach, Naruto, Gundam Wing, and Yu Yu Hakusho.
I love watching movies whenever I have free time, and this past summer I saw a new film (or films) practically ever week. Whenever I see a new film, I usually write a review for it on my blog, and I rate each film on a four-star scale. Some of my favorite films of all time include 'Crash', 'Slumdog Millionaire', 'Titanic', 'The Dark Knight', and 'Inception'.
Cool, thats a really cool story.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of reminds me of my parents story, both escaping a war, both going to the US and meeting there and then getting married. Except well, yours is definitely more interesting.
Im also a fellow gleek, i friking grew on DBZ and YYHakusho and Inception was the best mind**** movie ive seen.
Welcome to the class, Kent. Did you know that you can stream whole TV series from Netflix. I got 30 Rock. I am waiting for Mad Men to stream. Don't procrastinate in Anime class.
ReplyDeleteXavi: Thanks, man! Haha. I'm glad we have such great things in common! Can't wait to get to know you more this year!
ReplyDeleteProf. McCay: Yes! I actually bought the first two seasons of 30 Rock, but when I finally got Netflix I watched the rest of the series on Instant! But just to let ya know, Mad Men is already streaming on Netflix instant! I have it on my queue! :D
And don't worry, I'm not going to try procrastinating in your class. I don't wanna "FxxxK up!"
